NYFW: 'Re See' Michael Kors SS14
My 'top six' MK SS14 looks..
Michael Kors surprised us in a (positive way, of course) during his latest presentation at the New York Fashion Week last September. A couple of weeks ago, I told you I attended an exclusive press conference with the designer a day before his SS14 show, then I went the show and afterwards I to the headquarters to ‘re see’ the collection and visit the showroom. In this post I'm sharing a couple of pictures I took during my visit, plus my 'top six' runway looks.
At the press conference, Kors told us that he will take aside the sensual vibe of the brand to go along with a more romantic mood ‘... for this collection I wanted something very romantic, I think that when the weather turns warmer we all walk into a spring/summer romance... And also we were thinking very much about things that converge, like periods of time such as the 1940’s and 1970’s...’ He told us.
It’s amazing how new materials are incorporated to clothing, like raffia and hand embroideries. Two key words were fundamental for Kors: ‘Soft’ and ‘Hard’, reason why he decided to mix and match materials and textures that talked about this duality, the maxi clutch’ are the best example because the texture talks about the beach, while the shape resembles the city; light materials, transparencies, exotic skins, cashmere, cashgora crochet and cotton were some of the fabrics he use to empower the idea.
MK also supported a ‘global (and popular) trend’ applied by many designers and international fashion houses, that are designing and presenting timeless pieces, the ones you can wear all year long due to the quality of it's materials, the silhouettes and colors, ‘... I wanted to work with things that you will think about wearing perhaps at the beach but that you can make them work also at the city’ He stated.

En conferencia de prensa Kors nos adelantó que se alejaría un poco de lo sensual para irse por lo romántico ‘.... para esta colección quería algo muy romántico, siento que cuando el clima se empieza a poner cálido todos entramos en un estado de romance veraniego o primaveral... también quise denotar las convergencias entre el tiempo y los periodos históricos como los 40’s y 70’s...’ compartió entre risas el diseñador.
Sorprende ver nuevos materiales incorporados a las prendas, como la rafia trabajada, junto con finos bordados hechos a mano. Dos palabras son fundamentales para él: lo ‘sutil’ y lo ‘fuerte’ por ello decidió mezclar materiales y texturas que denotaran esta dualidad, y pone de manifiesto los maxi clutchs' en donde la textura nos habla de la playa y la forma nos habla de la ciudad; transparencias, pieles exóticas y pelo de cabra y casimir que podrán sonar bastante opuestas pero que al convivir, se amalgaman y aportan una interesante propuesta.
MK se une a la oleada de diseñadores que ofrecen piezas a temporales dentro de su colección; prendas que se pueden utilizar todo el año por la nobleza de sus materiales, siluetas y colores, ‘... quise trabajar las piezas que probablemente usarías en la playa para que también funcionaran en la ciudad’, comentó Kors.
Vi muchas siluetas fluidas, cortes que estilizan la figura, faldas un poco más largas de lo que acostumbramos ver en este diseñador, muchos detalles, una paleta neutra y menos looks en la pasarela, y es que el diseñador nos contó que redujo el número de modelos y cambios para hacer el desfile más ameno, personal y digerible: Un romance de verano pero en la ciudad de Nueva York! Suena bien, yo me apunto por lo pronto.
